J. Stephen Jones, MD, FACS
J. Stephen Jones is Chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Department of Regional Urology, Vice-Chairman of the Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute, and is Professor of Surgery (Urology) at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He serves in a number of areas of leadership at Cleveland Clinic, including the Board of Governors. With specialty interests in prostate and bladder cancer, he holds appointment in the Section of Urological Oncology.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at the J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Arkansas and M.D. at UAMS. After residency at Vanderbilt University in 1992, he joined the Springfield Clinic in Missouri. Under his chairmanship that started four years later, the Department of Urological Surgery became the highest rated non-residency urology program in America, according to U.S. News & World Report.
In addition to clinical & administrative responsibilities, he is involved in basic science and clinical research involving bladder & prostatecancer. His work of almost 150 publications has been published in a variety of journals, and he serves as an editor for several publications that focus on urologic issues. He is the author of 25 book chapters and two books. In addition, he is the Chairman of the Cryo Online Database (COLD) International registry, and is regarded as one a leading innovator in that topic, including focal therapy for prostatecancer. This was recognized by the International Society of Cryosurgery Award in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2009.
Special clinical interests involve prostate & bladder cancer and his innovations in the field of diagnostic strategies for both malignancies as well as treatment options for prostate cancer are well known. Beyond that, he is interested in innovative healthcare and received his MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in May, 2010.
