Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network Selects Mark Story as First-ever Director of Communications and Marketing

Bethesda, MD (July 2, 2019) – The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN), the only national advocacy organization devoted to advancing bladder cancer research and treatment and supporting those impacted by the disease, has hired strategic communications and marketing strategist Mark Story as its first-ever Director of Communications and Marketing.  Story will be based in BCAN’s Bethesda, Maryland headquarters and will report to Chief Executive Officer Andrea Maddox-Smith.

In this position, Story will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive marketing and communications program that will build awareness of the sixth-most diagnosed cancer in the United States and elevate BCAN’s role as the leader in the bladder cancer research, advocacy and support fields.

“Mark brings a wealth of experience in the strategic communications, marketing and cancer advocacy fields,” Maddox-Smith said.  “We are pleased to have him on board to help support BCAN’s goal of improving outcomes for thousands of bladder cancer patients and their loved ones.”

Before joining BCAN, Story served in a variety of high-profile communications roles, including media relations and crisis communications at American University in Washington, DC, patient and advocate communications at the National Cancer Institute and international corporate affairs at Alibaba Group in Hong Kong.
