The BCAN Pennsylvania Chapter was formed by individuals whose lives have been touched and greatly impacted by bladder cancer. Although bladder cancer is the 6th most commonly diagnosed form of cancer, there still remains a shockingly low level of awareness. Bladder cancer has a recurrence rate of 50-80%, yet many of us had never heard of this terrible disease until it personally affected our lives. We soon recognized that a voice was needed for this form of cancer.
The knowledge that Pennsylvania ranks 5th among our 50 states for new bladder cancer incidents in the year 2018, gave us an even greater sense of urgency to raise awareness in our local community and state. We strongly believe that NOW is the time to start talking about bladder cancer. We are dedicated to helping those that have just learned that they, a family member, or friend has been newly diagnosed. We are here to guide and encourage those currently being treated, and we will offer heartfelt support to those families who have lost loved ones to bladder cancer.
Our mission is to increase public awareness through the distribution of educational literature, promotion of BCAN’s webinar series, attendance at community health fairs, and participation in the national walk for bladder cancer. It is our goal to aid in the advancement of bladder cancer research by way of various fundraising activities and events throughout the year.
We strive to help YOU…..our bladder cancer family in Pennsylvania.
