Update – Access to Blue Light Cystoscopy

As many of you may know, there has been a reimbursement issue regarding blue light cystoscopy.  This issue has deterred some medical centers from using the technology and patients may not have access to it.  The BCAN position is that with so few advances in the disease, we must break down barriers to technology that may improve a patient’s quality of life.

Three months ago, we posted the link for the community to get involved and write to their Members of Congress to support legislation that would correct the Medicare decision to eliminate payment for Cysview, the drug used in blue light cystoscopy.  Hundreds and hundreds of you sent letters that poured into the Congress on the issue.  Senator Robert Menendez has championed this issue and offered an amendment to Medicare legislation before the Senate Finance Committee on the subject.  Although that legislation was ultimately not enacted, there is another opportunity to seek an amendment to another Medicare bill that must be passed by the end of the month.

If you would like to have your voice heard and advocate for this important issue, go to http://www.savebladdercancertreatment.com/ and send a second letter to your members of Congress asking they address this patient access issue.  The site is supported by Photocure, the company that produces Cysview.
