Volunteers at the DC Walk for Bladder Cancer

There are many different ways to help – here are just some ideas.

Join BCAN’s Medical Outreach Program —

contact urology and other medical offices to ensure that everyone who is newly diagnosed with bladder cancer receives a copy of the BCAN handbook “Bladder Cancer Basics for the Newly Diagnosed”.  For more information about volunteering with the Medical Outreach Program, please click here.

Fundraising —

organize activities in your local community – golf, tennis or soccer tournament, a fun run, a bowl-a-thon; a community car wash; a dinner party or picnic; a quilting or knitting bee. Involve friends and family. These can be small events – everything helps.  For an example, see Randy’s story.

Write for the Cure —

BCAN’s grassroots on-going fundraising campaign is called “Write for the Cure” and is a simple way to help raise awareness and funds on our behalf.  Learn more about Write for the Cure.  For an example, see Jacqueline’s story.

Raise Awareness —

plan a local bladder cancer awareness activity and contact your local media to share your story with them; a generic media kit on bladder cancer basics and background information is available from BCAN. Organize an email or letter writing campaign to your Member of Congress about the need for more research funding for bladder cancer.

Online help —

use your computer to find contact information on physicians who treat bladder cancer; find web pages that should be asked to link to BCAN’s website; create a personal online fundraising page for BCAN’s awareness, research and support programs – use this to attract funds for a specific activity, maybe a marathon you and some of your friends can enter.

Do whatever you can to help BCAN fulfill its ultimate goal – find a cure for bladder cancer.
