Through your generous donation, BCAN is working to increase public awareness about bladder cancer, to provide support to patients, and to promote increased research towards the treatment and cure of this disease.  Read on for information about ways to give, how you can make honoraria or memorial donations, and more.

Ways to Give

We make it easy to give online, by check or money order, or through gifts of stock.  To increase the impact of your contribution, check to see whether your employer offers a matching gift program.  BCAN also welcomes donations made in honor or memory of a friend or loved one.  Read on for more information about each of these options.

Online Giving

The easiest way to give is through our secure, online giving link.  Just click on the “Network for Good” link below and follow the steps to make your gift today.  If you provide your address, we will mail you an acknowledgment of your tax-deductible donation.  Otherwise, we will send you an email acknowledgment.  If you wish to donate in honor or memory of someone, and would like BCAN to send an acknowledgment, please email the acknowledgment and donation information to gschroer@bcan.org.  Thank you!

Honoraria and Memorial Gifts

Gifts made in honor or memory of a loved one are a thoughtful way to pay tribute to someone special in your life.

Gifts can be made to BCAN online through the link above or by mail with a check.  If making an honoraria or memorial donation, please be sure to indicate, either with the donation or in an email to gschroer@bcan.org:

• who you would like to have notified of your donation (and their contact information)

If you have lost a loved one to bladder cancer and wish to suggest BCAN as a recipient organization for donations made in their name, you have several options.

• BCAN greatly appreciates being listed as a suggested recipient for memorial donations in a funeral program or obituary.  Please ask that people indicate your loved one’s name, include your name and address so that we can send you an acknowledgment, and mail checks to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network at 4813 St. Elmo Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814 or donate online at http://www.bcan.org/take-action/donate/.  Please feel free to contact us at 888-901-BCAN (2226) to have us mail donation envelopes or answer any questions.
• You may set up a memorial fundraising page for BCAN through firstgiving.com.  This allows you to include pictures and fond memories of your loved one as a tribute to their memory.  Click here to see BCAN’s firstgiving.com site.

No matter what method you choose, BCAN will send thank you notes to each donor who shares their contact information, and will also provide you with the list of donors if we have your contact information so that you may send your own acknowledgments.

Gifts of Stock

Giving a gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value and that you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits to you than giving cash.

Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer to BCAN.  Your charitable income tax donation is equal to the fair market of the stock and you avoid paying capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Many companies offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations.  Most of these programs match contributions dollar for dollar – they are an easy way to increase the impact of your personal contribution to BCAN.  Some employers also offer matching programs for retirees or spouses.   Please get in touch with your employer to see if they have a matching gift program available.  Then fill out the provided forms and enclose them with your donation, or send us the forms after making an online donation – we will take care of the rest.
