The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) is proud to announce that we have been designated a Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Charity Partner! BCAN has been allocated 25 guaranteed entries for the 38th Annual Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October 27, 2013; an event that sold out in 2 hours and 41 minutes in 2012.
  • We are looking at building “Team BCAN” to not only run in the event and raise awareness for bladder cancer but to raise needed funds for fostering research and patient education. According to the Marine Corps Marathon, there is not a required qualifying time to participate in the event, but all runners should maintain at least a 14 minute mile pace. In order to become a member of “Team BCAN” and officially have a slot in this year’s race, you must be registered through BCAN.
  • No federal or Marine Corps endorsement is implied.
  • If you are interested in becoming a member of BCAN’s team or have any questions, please contact Larry Rzepka, BCAN’s Executive Director, at lrzepka@bcan.org.

    BCAN’s Bladder Cancer Cure Teams

Community Cure Teams have raised over $34,000!

In recent years some individuals and groups have raised funds for BCAN by taking part in existing sports fixtures -

David Rogers ran 16 miles and raised over $2,400 for BCAN; he documented his race in this YouTube video.

Jamie and Andrea Gillespie organized a fundraiser surrounding their local Capital Crescent 5K run.   A hundred of their friends and family participated in the race; they raised over $11,000.

A Bladder Cancer Cure Team from Endo Pharmaceuticals raised over $21,000 when they took part in the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon (PHLYTRI)’s Sprint Triathlon.  Endo Pharmaceuticals matched dollar-for-dollar each donation Endo employees and contractors raised.  Sincere thanks to Endo, the six individual participants, the six relay participants, and all their friends and family who supported BCAN in this.  And huge thanks to Philly Tri participants Simon Lemmy, Suzy Fleming, Amy Richards, Tom Wojciechowski, Mike Rogers, Tim Byrne, Amber Dukes, Todd Hudson,  Don Minors, Michael McCrea, Alicia Logan, Jeanette Straus and fundraisers Doug Azzalina and Jaime Wullenwaber.

Thanks to all who participated and/or raised funds in support of BCAN’s programs to advance research, raise awareness, and provide support to the bladder cancer community – you raised over $34,000!

Interested in doing this for BCAN?  You too can join BCAN’s Bladder Cancer Cure Team!  Participate in an event and set up your own personal fundraising page -  Find out how.
