A New Tool for Bladder Cancer Patients – Bladder Cancer Clinical Trials Dashboard

Today, April 3rd, Rep. Cartwright of PA and Rep. Rogers of MI will introduce this important house resolution to recognize May as Bladder Cancer Awareness Month. Great News from a BCAN Friend

When my husband John and I had the idea to start a bladder cancer patient advocacy organization in May 2005, the first person we contacted was Dr. Mark Schoenberg, the bladder cancer specialist who was treating my husband at Johns Hopkins. Mark’s first response after hearing our idea was “you must do this and I will help you.”

Update – Access to Blue Light Cystoscopy

As many of you may know, there has been a reimbursement issue regarding blue light cystoscopy. This issue has deterred some medical centers from using the technology and patients may not have access to it. The BCAN position is that with so few advances in the disease, we must break down barriers to technology that may improve a patient’s quality of life.

Being Proactive

I often hear from cancer patients that they feel a sense of helplessness when they are diagnosed. Their body is attacking itself and they are reliant on doctors and other medical professionals to make decisions and treat the disease. While our control over the disease may be limited, there are many steps a patient can take to be proactive.
