TheAdvocacy Network is pleased to be a supporting organization for an exciting new tool for the (and all cancers) community, the Cancer Insurance Checklist. Over the last 6 weeks, the Cancer Support Community has partnered with cancer and advocacy organizations to create this checklist which is a comprehensive patient decision making tool for use when shopping for insurance plans in your state’s Health Insurance Marketplace/Exchange. State exchanges are scheduled to begin their open enrollment on October 1. Coverage will begin on January 1, 2014.
The Checklist provides consumers guidance on the questions they should ask when shopping for insurance. These questions have been created to ensure that patients understand and can compare coverage plans specifically for cancer-related services. Questions include; “What are the co-pays?”, “How much is the deductible?”, “How much is the premium?” The tool further has a glossary of terms that are commonly used in health insurance as well as gives the user a step by step means of outlining their personal information in helping to prepare to complete the Checklist.
