Claire Saxton, Executive Director

Claire has over fifteen years experience as a nonprofit executive and fund development professional, including as Executive Director of the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) in Austin, Texas.  Under Claire’s leadership, the BCRC tripled its services and funding in order to better meet the needs of those facing diagnosis, breast cancer survivors, and their loved ones.  Claire’s additional accomplishments include helping open the National Domestic Violence Hotline; expanding services, funding, and outreach as Development and PR Director of the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence; and co-founding and managing Community Shares of Texas, which has raised over $2 million for Texas nonprofits.

Claire received her MBA from the University of Oregon and her undergraduate degree from Rice University.  Claire, her husband, and their preschool-aged son relocated to the Washington, DC area from Oregon.

Janet McIver, Information and Outreach Coordinator

Before coming to BCAN, Janet worked for The Wellness Community (TWC) at both the national office and the TWC-DC which provides support services, education and hope to people whose lives have been affected by a cancer diagnosis. Janet, who is originally from Northern Ireland, worked with the UK Government where she was involved in developing social and economic policies with particular emphasis on developing services for people with special needs. Prior to that she was a teacher and schools counselor. Janet has served on the (Northern Ireland region) boards of The British Epilepsy Association and the Counsel on Disability.

Grace Schroer, Marketing and Development Coordinator

As Marketing and Development Coordinator, Grace keeps our website up to date and manages our development information.  Before coming to BCAN, she worked as a research assistant at the Harvard School of Public Health.  Grace received her undergraduate degree in Human Evolutionary Biology from Harvard College, where she was active in the Harvard University Band.
