Diane Zipursky Quale, Director/President
John Quale, Director/Secretary
Diane Zipursky Quale, co-founder of BCAN, holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Stanford University and a Juris Doctor from the National Law Center, George Washington University. She was in private law practice until 1996 when she became Washington Counsel for the National Broadcasting Company, Inc. (NBC), and was later promoted to Vice President, Washington Law and Policy for NBC. Diane left NBC in April 2002, and since that time has been an active participant in the cancer community, serving as the volunteer administrator of a retreat program for cancer patients and fundraiser for a small non-profit cancer organization in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Consumer Advocates in Research and Related Activities (CARRA) program. You can reach Diane at dzquale@bcan.org.

John Quale, co-founder of BCAN, is a survivor of bladder cancer, including metastatic disease in 2001. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Harvard College and a Juris Doctor from Harvard University. John joined the Washington, D.C. office of Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in 1996 as a partner and heads the firm’s communications practice. He represents companies with respect to a broad range of communications law issues arising in regulatory, legislative and transactional matters. Prior to joining Skadden, John practiced law with Wiley, Rein and Fielding in Washington, D.C. where he was a founding partner and head of its mass media communications group.

David A. Wilson, Director/Treasurer
David Wilson has a PhD in Accounting from the University of Illinois and is a Certified Public Accountant (Texas). He has served on the faculties of the University of Texas at Austin and at Harvard University. He was a managing partner in the public accounting firms of Ernst & Young. He is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Graduate Management Admission Council, which administers the Graduate Management Admission Test for business schools throughout the world.

Janice Ashley, Director
Jan has a background in education and elementary teaching and was Creator of Life Skills Programs at Charles Settlement House (working with women and children) and Melita House (residential facility for homeless pregnant women). She is currently President of Ashley Family Foundation, Board Member of Genesee Country Village and Museum, and Co-President of Honeoye Area Historical Society. Jan is also a docent at the Susan B. Anthony House, and a volunteer at Bethany House (residential shelter for women and children). Jan is a 28-year survivor of bladder cancer. She and her husband, Stephen Ashley, reside in Honeoye, NY, outside of Rochester.

Tate Donovan, Director
Tate Donovan is an actor who has appeared in movies, on television and on and off Broadway. Most recently, he played the role of Tom Shayes on the critically acclaimed television series, “Damages.” Tate was in the cast of “Nancy Drew” and “Good Night and Good Luck” and portrayed the character Jimmy Cooper on the hit television drama “The O.C.” Tate’s father, Dr. Timothy Donovan, a retired urologist, died of bladder cancer in 2001. Tate’s mother was diagnosed with early-stage bladder cancer in October 2005. In addition to serving on the BCAN Board of Directors, Tate will also act as a national spokesperson for BCAN.

Richard Scolio, Director
Richard was born in Erie, Pennsylvania and is a bladder cancer survivor. He graduated from Xavier University with a BSBA in 1964 and attended Gannon University Graduate School in 1969. In 1968, Richard was a Captain of the United States Marine Corps. Currently, he is the Senior Vice-President of Investments at Smith Barney in Lutherville, Maryland. He has been married 39 years to his wife Jan and has one son and four grandchildren. Since 1968, Richard has been involved in many areas of investments including being a Registered Investment Advisor and Branch Manager and involvement with corporate municipal bonds and estate planning.
