The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) is proud to announce that we have been designated a Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Charity Partner! BCAN has been allocated 25 guaranteed entries for the 38th Annual Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October 27, 2013; an event that sold out in 2 hours and 41 minutes in 2012.
  • We are looking at building “Team BCAN” to not only run in the event and raise awareness for bladder cancer but to raise needed funds for fostering research and patient education. According to the Marine Corps Marathon, there is not a required qualifying time to participate in the event, but all runners should maintain at least a 14 minute mile pace. In order to become a member of “Team BCAN” and officially have a slot in this year’s race, you must be registered through BCAN.

    Yair Lotan, M.D.
    Associate Professor of Urology
    UT Southwestern

    Yair Lotan is an associate professor of Urology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.  He graduated from Baylor College of Medicine and did his residency training at UT Southwestern Medical Center.  His primary clinical practice involves urologic malignancies with a focus on minimally invasive approaches.  His main research interests involve biomarkers for urologic malignancies especially bladder cancer.  He has performed multiple studies evaluating urine-based and tissue markers to improve early detection and prognostication of bladder cancer.  He also focuses on outcomes research and health economics involving urologic diseases.

    He has published over 160 peer reviewed articles and has been invited to write multiple book chapters, reviews and editorials.  He leads the disease oriented team for genito-urinary malignancies at the UT Southwestern Simmons Cancer Center and is a member of the American Urological Association National Ultrasound Faculty and current president of the Society of Urologic Oncology Young Urologic Oncologist Steering Committee.  He is also on the steering committee of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.
