The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) is proud to announce that we have been designated a Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Charity Partner! BCAN has been allocated 25 guaranteed entries for the 38th Annual Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October 27, 2013; an event that sold out in 2 hours and 41 minutes in 2012.
  • We are looking at building “Team BCAN” to not only run in the event and raise awareness for bladder cancer but to raise needed funds for fostering research and patient education. According to the Marine Corps Marathon, there is not a required qualifying time to participate in the event, but all runners should maintain at least a 14 minute mile pace. In order to become a member of “Team BCAN” and officially have a slot in this year’s race, you must be registered through BCAN.

    Michael Jewett, M.D., FRCSC, FACS
    Professor of Surgery, Division of Urology
    University of Toronto

    Dr. Michael Jewett is a Professor of Surgery in the Division of Urology at the University of Toronto and a Uro-Oncologist in the University Health Network Division of Urology and Department of Surgical Oncology of Princess Margaret Hospital. Dr. Jewett is the immediate past Chairman of the Division of Urology at the University of Toronto and Head of Urology at the University Health Network which incorporates the Princess Margaret Hospital. He is a member of the UofT School of Graduate Studies Institute of Medical Studies, past Program Director of Urology and is a Director of the UofT UroOncology Fellowship Program. He is the immediate Past President of the Canadian Urology Association. He holds peer reviewed funding and is actively engaged in bladder cancer research and has published extensively in this field as well as in other UroOncology subjects. His current interest is in prognostic factors, informatic applications, intravesical and advanced surgical treatments.  He was a Committee Chair for the International Consultation on Bladder Tumours in the 2004 Consensus as well as a member of the previous consensus groups.
