The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) is proud to announce that we have been designated a Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Charity Partner! BCAN has been allocated 25 guaranteed entries for the 38th Annual Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October 27, 2013; an event that sold out in 2 hours and 41 minutes in 2012.
  • We are looking at building “Team BCAN” to not only run in the event and raise awareness for bladder cancer but to raise needed funds for fostering research and patient education. According to the Marine Corps Marathon, there is not a required qualifying time to participate in the event, but all runners should maintain at least a 14 minute mile pace. In order to become a member of “Team BCAN” and officially have a slot in this year’s race, you must be registered through BCAN.

    Ashish M. Kamat, M.D.
    Associate Professor and Director of the Urologic Oncology, Fellowship Program
    M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
    Dr Ashish M. Kamat is an Associate Professor and Director of the Urologic Oncology Fellowship Program at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. After graduating from the University of Bombay, Dr. Kamat completed a residency in urology at West Virginia University under the guidance of Dr Donald L. Lamm. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and joined the faculty at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in July, 2003 with a dual appointment in the Departments of Urology and Cancer Biology.

    His area of clinical and research expertise is in the arena of bladder cancer. He has given numerous presentation and invited lectures, conducted symposiums, and has authored editorials and publications in several journals. He serves on the editorial board of Expert Reviews in Anticancer Therapy and as a reviewer for journals as Journal of Urology, Urology, Cancer, British Journal of Urology, Journal of the National Medical Association, and BMC Cancer and is listed in ‘Who’s Who in Medicine’. He currently is actively involved in basic, translational and clinical research focusing on issues related to chemoprevention, carcinogenesis and novel therapies in bladder cancer, and is the recipient of peer-reviewed research funding including awards from the National Cancer Institute. He is an active member of the American Urological Association and a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology and is active in many organizations including Cancer Support Groups for patients.
