Between 2001-2005, Dr. Konety was an Assistant Professor of Urology and Chief, Urology Service at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City and the University of Iowa. Most recently, he has served as Chief of Urology, VA Medical Center, San Francisco and Associate Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Urology at the University of California, San Francisco. He has authored or co-authored over 60 original publications and numerous book chapters. Dr. Konety has been Principal or Co-investigator on grants funded through The Department of Defense, The National Institutes of Health, The American Geriatrics Society and The Center for Disease Control. Dr. Konety was also a Dennis Jahnigen Career Development Scholar of the American Geriatrics Society. He is an active member of numerous professional medical societies including the American Urological Association, the American College of Surgeons, International College of Surgeons and the Society for Basic Urological Research. Dr. Konety’s work in bladder cancer is focused on the study of the development and validation of new markers for the diagnosis of bladder cancer. He has been involved in the study of a novel bladder cancer specific marker BLCA-4 and in assessing the utility of vitamin D therapy on bladder cancer. Along with some of his colleagues, Dr. Konety has been involved in examining age specific therapy for superficial bladder cancer. His research effort also focuses on studying the impact of bladder cancer on quality of life and other factors that affect outcomes from bladder cancer treatment. |
