BCAN Raises Awareness at NBC4 Health & Fitness Expo

On January 11-12, BCAN was proud to take part in the 22nd Annual NBC 4 Health and Fitness Expo. Thousands of people came to this free event to learn more about how to live a healthier life in the upcoming year. Visitors stopped by BCAN’s booth and could also enjoy seeing special guests, amazing exhibitions, and receive free health care screenings. Click on the full article to see pictures.


Making Bladder Cancer Research a Priority

As anyone with bladder cancer or in the research community will tell you, bladder cancer research is greatly underfunded. There have been no new significant advances in the disease in more than 20 years. With the leadership of our board and the generosity of BCAN donors, our research program has grown exponentially since 2010 when we awarded the first $25,000 grant.


Article Highlights Future of Bladder Cancer Care in the USA

An article was published recently in the journal Nature titled “The future of bladder cancer care in the USA.” The authors discuss how despite the large number of people diagnosed with bladder cancer each year and the high costs of treatment and management for this disease, there is a lack of awareness about bladder cancer as a public health concern and lack of funding for research.

When my late husband and I started BCAN in 2005, we never imagined the strong community that now works together to cultivate a community of hope and support for people impacted by bladder cancer. I am so proud to be associated with the hundreds of volunteers across the country who devote their time, energy and resources to support BCAN’s mission.
